I’m currently based in NYC, I moved here thinking that it would be easier to be gay and make friends here. But I really haven’t found that to be the case. There’s a thriving, black, gay arts scene here, but they’re very exclusive and somewhat elitist in my opinion. Finding more working class or professional black lgbtq people to connect with has been difficult despite meetup, theCenter, and reddit, and especially during the pandemic.
I’m now reconsidering if the city is even for me and looking around to see if there are any other cities where black queer people are in community and respected.
If you’re also in NYC dm me maybe we can make a group chat.
