What are houses and cars meant to be used for? Just curious.

I’ve been a bitizen since October of last year, and since then I have never seen the need as to why someone would buy houses or cars. I know you would buy a house to get appreciated value and sell it off later, but cars idk unless you want to do a drive by shooting on someone. I just want some people’s thoughts on this.
