I try to encourage my SO to be frank with her feelings, let me know her state, communicate needs and allow me to engage with her like an adult and not in ways that are adversarial or parental in tone.
We had a good talk bout her spending, and her inability to keep count when manic (she cannot count higher than 5 when manic, it's a total block!) She accepted responsibility, apologized, and suggested ways we can prevent it happening again.
It makes me hopeful that we will make it, that she is a sum greater than her condition(s).
I mean, I still will say in a heartbeat that I wouldn't put up with this from anyone else and if I saw someone in an identical situation I would question their decision-making.
Yet, my heart is calm and I feel like we can continue to thrive in spite of her bipolar condition. That as long as she continues to manage it and stay on top of it, that we will be OK.
As long as I feel that effort, as long as I get leniency for my flaws as well, I'm still in it for the long-haul.
