Is it possible to get NMDA antagonism benefits with less side effects?

I have started taking DXM again and I really like the effects. I was originally given it as a prescription for depression in the form of Auvelity. However, through personal experimentation I found that I prefer plain DXM over the DXM Wellbutrin combo of Auvelity.

The major downside of the drug (which is why I stopped taking it originally) is that it makes me feel very stupid and always on the verge of dissociating. I'm only taking between 60-90mg. It's dangerous to drive while on the drug, and I have to really lock in and focus to have a coherent conversation. I can't really do math of any kind.

The positives are massive though. I'm way friendlier, more talkative, funnier, more helpful. I'm way stronger in the gym, better at talking to girls, way more motivated.

I wish there was a way to get these benefits without feeling so spaced out and stupid. I'm also considering taking Memantine instead because I don't think DXM is a good long-term option anyway.

Is there a way to take DXM or Memantine without feeling lobotomized but still getting the good effects? Or is it possible that the lobotomized/under-active brain is what makes the drug feel so good? Is there any reason to take DXM over Memantine?
