Very fast digestion / Fast metabolism

Post Body

Hi everyone,

I've always had quite a fast metabolism (I can smell coffee in my urine shortly after drinking it, etc.), but lately, I’ve been wondering if my low energy levels could be linked to digestive issues.

Last night, I had a spicy dinner quite late (around 1am) on my way home, and I went to the toilet for a number two this morning (around 9am). I could tell it was my dinner, as the jalapeños were burning (sorry for the detail). Does 8 hours seem like a short time, considering I’ve read that digestion should take 24-36 hours? Should I get this checked?

The same thing happens with everything I eat — I can especially tell when I eat corn, spinach or something spicy, for obvious reasons.

I should also mention that I’ve always had soft stools for as long as I can remember, or borderline chronic diarrhoea (it’s « normal » for me and doesn’t bother me much). It’s very rare for me to have solid, well-formed stools. I’ve always thought this might be due to being quite a stressed person. My GP says that as long as it doesn’t bother me it’s not worth investigating it. I have a fairly healthy diet (rarely eat takeaways, mostly fresh products, and almost no fried food). If i drink alcohol I’ll have explosive diarrhoea the next day (but that’s something most people experience?), I only drink once a week on average. I usually go to the loo once a day. I drink plenty of water.

Any thoughts?
