I see very little appreciation for meat in general on this sub. Yet meat is a superfood that provides a mix of molecules that seems to improve the health of the aging body across the board. Some notable ones:
Carnosine. The dipeptide of b-alanine and histidine, carnosine plays a critical role in exercise performance and skeletal muscle homeostasis, intramyocellular pH buffer, potent antioxidant (protects against reactive oxygen species - ROS), has anti-inflammatory properties, is a metal ion chelator, might be neuroprotective of the aging brain
Carnitine. Carnitine is a key component in creating energy for the cells. Improves metabolic dysfunction by reducing blood pressure, elevated liver enzymes and blood glucose. Improves fertility both in males and females.
Taurine. Improves energy generation, increases bone mass, improves muscle endurance and strength. At a cellular level, taurine improves many functions that usually decline with age: decreases the number of senescence cells, increases the number of stem cells present in some tissues (which can help tissues heal after injury), improves the performance of mitochondria, reduces DNA damage, and improved the cellsโ ability to sense nutrients.
Known longevity biohackers (Bryan Johnson, Dave Pascoe, etc.) are taking all 3 of these compounds in supplement form.
Also, meat in general provides high quality, high amount of bioavailable protein, which becomes more and more crucial as the body ages.
One can take these supplements, or just have a diet rich in meat products (especially beef, lamb and pork).
What do you think?
