Imagine you had access to unlimited magnesium blood determinations, as well as urine determinations (24h, spot on urine or whatever you wanted). You have access also to any ammount i.v magnesium sulfate and any other oral form.
What would you do? Because if the idea is good I can deliver. The only negative aspect is that it would be a n of 1 study.
Edit: to add to the discussion, my current idea is to assess a 16h urinary magnesium amount, and then do the same 16h after an i.v dose, to assess the % of retention. I have read in a paper that it is a good way to assess the magnesium deficiency, better than blood levels.
Edit 2: this would be done in a hospital setting, with qualified staff doing the blood draws/i.v injections
