OK, I jest, this isn't a "I want a trip without the drugs" post - but I've just gotten some of this for its effect on neurons to "stimulate" the release of dopamine.
I have dopamine synthesis issues (TH), as well as Norepinephrine (DBH) and Serotonin (but let's skip that one for this chat).
I also have SLOW MAOA MAOB COMT and DAT - so whilst you could say all these things create some kind of equilibrium - I liken it to running at about 20% of a "normal" human being.
Any negative event is capable of tipping me over the edge quite easily and and truly memorable moments or achievements, gain nothing more than a "meh, yay!" reaction.
Now I've tested a LOT of stuff and have a pretty solid methylation stack put together for the core issues.
What I'm playing with now, is effectively classed as "ADHD" and being on a 5yr waiting list for meds 1) isn't going to work for me and 2) is not something I want anyway (biohacking is way more fun!).
So, whilst I've played with boosting dopamine levels pre/post synthesis and limiting the reuptake - I'm looking at supplements that achieve a similar effect to Vyvanse, without the go-psycho peak crash phases. I don't need the reuptake inhibition that Vyvanse gives, because I'm already a natural reuptake inhibitor.
Aside from caffeine and nicotine, neither of which I care much for, Forskolin seems to be the only thing out there that actually directly works on the neuron to release dopamine (like Vyvanse).
Now, as I have impaired MAOA and DAT, I don't need to worry so much about screwing with things there, the goal I guess has been to find something that works as a bit of a stimulant, without the addictions/side effects that caffeine and nicotine bring.
Forskolin Mucana Pruriens then, seem like a match made in heaven and I'd like to know if anyone else is already riding this train (given I'm about 10yrs late to the biohacking party, but have learnt most of it in the last 6 months by hyper-focusing :-)
So far today, it's feeling pretty amazing, but I'm looking for experience vs placebo (time will tell there anyway).
Other benefits...
Weight loss, improved HDL, LDL levels, eye health, testosterone/DHT, hair and more... what are the negatives? 😂
I'm looking at this as something which seems to address all these issues (which are really all as a result of bad methylation/genes) so that makes sense.
