Hello everyone! I am fascinated by this sub and wanted to introduce myself. I am a clinical hypnotherapist in private, remote practice and, in my opinion, my work is the height of what could be considered biohacking. The mindset, regulation and more that you are able to attain by working with your subconscious mind is truly amazing.
Hypnosis is not what you see on stage. It is the active bypassing of the critical filter between the conscious and subconscious minds; through that we are able to directly access the subconscious and its associations, something normally very difficult to do when the critical filter is still active. Through this access we can address traumatic memories, refine habits and associations to be healthier and even help the body heal. Let me give an example on how the processes that I work with go beyond simple mindset. Have you heard of the reticular activating system or RAS for short? This is a physical part of your brain, and it has two primary functions: it controls the sleep/wake transition, and it is your brain's attentional filter. Simply put, it is what determines what is able to be in your field of attention. Your brain processes 2mb of data every second; of that, you are only able to perceive 128 BYTES. Think about that. Think about how much around you that you simply cannot even perceive. The RAS and its programming determine what makes it into the lens of your perception.
So what does that mean? That means that you have hardware in your brain made to reinforce whatever you tell it to. Think the world is a bad place? The RAS will make sure you only notice things that reinforce that view. Think you aren't worthy of success? The RAS will made sure that you receive confirmation of that however it can. Bought a new car? The RAS will make sure you suddenly notice that make and model all the time now. You see what you subconsciously program yourself to and there is a system in place to validate that programming, whatever it may be.
How to change that program? Well, the easiest way is to work with a professional... but I can start you off with a tip. Though this tip sounds simple, do an experiment and just try for a week. Trance is a natural state and as such occurs as part of our daily cycle. The easiest time to access one of these naturally occurring trance states is immediately after you wake. For 30 minutes your filter is down, and you are able to willfully influence your subconscious systems. Take this time to envision, not tell yourself, what it is you want to see. Your subconscious speaks image, not language. Try this for a week and let me know what impact it has.
