Curious if BVD matches my particular symptoms
Post Body

Hi everyone!

Few months ago, begun to notice my monitor was "slanted" and the left side closer than the right side (can vary). Phone screen doesn't look flat either, weird. Shelving looks sloped. Prompted me to go to opticians and got a prescription of long sightedness and astigmatism. Awaiting ophthalmology appointment but figured it's worth posting in case anyone has any tips on mitigating my issues.

My symptoms seem to be BVD related? When researching all roads seem to lead back to it lol.

Prescription:

L SPH 1.75 CYL 0.75 axis 3

R SPH 1.25 CYL 0.75 axis 175

That's after being tested again as the 1st pair of glasses had an additional 0.25 sph on both and my eyes struggled to accommodate so they decided to lower both eyes.

Never felt the need to wear glasses full-time before all of this, I very rarely wore them if at all. Now wearing them full time.

Symptoms:

  • Slanted and depth perception issues regardless of if glasses on or off. Sometimes I can cope with it, if tired it's harder.

  • When looking at centre of objects such as phone screen, monitor, mirror, etc. Really struggle to gauge if the object is facing me or is slightly off to the side. Furthermore, sometimes I constantly feel I am either left or right of the centre even though I am physically looking directly at it.

  • Eyes take different amounts of time to focus, ghosting noticeable if using either eye. Blur and ghosting persists until I start using both eyes again. Can occur with both eyes too.

  • Neck soreness from tilting unnecessarily all the time.

  • Alternating my blinks, each eye seems to have a different vertical height and it's kind of like my eyes are each on a different point of a circle. Like my vision has shifted both horizontally, vertically, and depth wise.

  • Do have issues with balance when walking, partly due to leg injury long time ago

  • White text on black backgrounds causes haloing and "clouds" behind the words in certain conditions. PC and phone mostly okay, but noticed it is very very bad on washer machine's digital display (?).

  • Always struggled reading physical books. Having to re-read sentences as I feel like I skimmed over part of a sentence.

  • Driving at night and/or in rain is harder as traffic lights streak/halo, rain is the worst.

  • Seems to mainly only occur at a short distance about 1-5m or something. When driving, I can judge distance pretty much perfectly. But if I need to park, it's a bit harder to judge but always works out.

  • Low light makes focusing tougher sometimes. I can turn my head one way, look back at my original position and things have shifted entirely to left/right, etc.

Current things I'm doing to help my eyes:

  • Heat mask at night
  • Eye drops when needed during day (1-3 times ish now)
  • Nightly drops
  • Added a monitor lamp to light up my desk and surroundings
