Terlingua or Marathon

I'm planning a road trip for early August. It will be during a new moon.
If I stay in Terlingua TX it adds 3 hours total drive time to my trip. Mirror house or Dome house. Estimated $250 for the night.
If I stay in Marathon TX it is much more convenient and they have the observatory at the Motel. Estimated $120 for the night.
I'm likely going solo. I've never been to a Bortle 1 sky site. Big Cypress in Florida is a Bortle 2, and I live near there.
