Police Officer to PwC… seeking advice (UK)
Post Body

Just seeking some friendly advice and tips to kickstart my career… this is a big change of environment and work style for me.

About me.

I am 25 years old and have been successful at being offered a position at PwC, UK. Starting this month. I will be at their legal department as an associate for Entity and Governance compliance.

I have a Law Degree (LLB), and have completed a postgraduate LPC (so I can practice law) and Masters of Law (LLM).

I joined the Police at 18… like most young people I was drawn to the job diversity and ‘glamour’ of the role. I maintained my higher education studies throughout however. I fell in love with being an Officer. Being in control. Having a very large degree of freedom. Being the peacemaker. Supporting victims of crimes. Working on the type of cases and incidents you see in the movies or news. The diversity of functions of roles… one day I could be supporting communities in a neighbourhood policing role, the next day I could be rolling shotgun in a souped up BMW X5 as part of traffic duties, whatever you see on TV I could do.

I’ve not worked in a strictly office environment before.

I’ve not worked in the private sector before where pressures and targets are high.

I’ve not worked in an environment where I have a ‘boss’ as such.

(unique about being an Officer is that you are your own boss, yes there is a chain of command and rank structure but as a warranted constable of the crown and only sworn to service to Her Majesty the Queen every decision you make is your own provided you give a solid rationale. So in my career I have always been left to myself - which I love - to crack on with the job)

Any advice, tips or even things to watch out for? This is totally new territory for me.

Context: I’m making a career change for better salary prospects and to utilise my law degree as young professional.
