Is it appropriate for the worst performing auditor ever to attend our company dinner?

Hello fellow Reddit users,

Just looking for a bit of advice here. I'm the CEO of a thriving business and we've just wrapped up our audit with EY in Canada. These auditors, let me tell you, they've had their work cut out for them.

One of them, in particular, seemed to struggle a lot. Not sure if it's because of our innovative method of doing business (it involves a lot of improvising and spinning roulette wheels), or simply his performance. However, he did manage to finish the job, albeit in a 'please explain everything to me again' sort of way.

Now, we've always celebrated the end of audit season with a grand dinner, and traditionally, we invite the auditors. They’ve earned a nice meal after trying to untangle our complex and creatively managed financials. But in this case, I'm wondering if it's appropriate.

This auditor hasn’t exactly covered himself in glory. However, apparently his team may not even be aware, as they haven’t fired this character yet. That said, he must know…and didn’t quit yet out of sheer embarrassment. Plus, there's something kind of endearing about his dogged determination to keep asking questions even after we thought we'd answered them.

Would it look bad to not invite him, or would it be a lesson learned about the value of really understanding a client's business before starting an audit?

Also, there's the steak to consider. We're known for serving the biggest steaks in town at our dinners. It seems a bit unfair that someone who had so much trouble might get to enjoy that kind of feast.

So, to invite or not to invite? That is the question. Please provide some guidance, Reddit!

Thanks in advance, CEO of a Happy Chaos Factory
