And is there any theological distinction between a "thou shalt not" commandment and these two? My very shallow sense is that the unwritten implication is...
Thou shalt not (ever) ...
and
(Always) honor thy father/mother, and (Always) remember the sabbath.
And just noticing that even the first is "Thou shalt have no other....", so it's still a negation. So can we properly call these 8 prohibitions, and 2 positive, moral and ongoing commandments?

Edit: I'm appreciating everyone's perspective so keep it coming but folks may have assumed that I am Christian so I wanted to clarify I'm not. I consider myself a seeker, with a Jewish background. The first person to call me a seeker was a pastor who I asked what it meant that I agreed with much of the NT's teachings but not it's assertions of divinity. Anyone who claims to have wisdom is worth hearing out, so that's what I'm doing here. Thanks for all your wisdom!
