Scammer book - Natalie's SA and Caroline Calloway
Post Body

Who is familiar with Caroline Calloway and her book Scammer?
Specifically, the discourse on her (ex)friend Natalie's sexual assault that she basically uses as a vehicle to discuss her own sexuality becoming clearer to her?
I haven't read the book (so grains of salt on my take here please) because I was not aware of Caroline Calloway until Instagram, the media, and podcasters were discussing the release of her long awaited book, Scammer. And because it is not easy to get your hands on timely I am just operating on the discourse made available to me regarding this. Some commentators and media outlets have left out the SA all together in their discussion of the book. Two podcasts I am a regular listener to, Be There In Five and Celebrity Memoir Book Club made significant note and critique of the inclusion of Natalie's SA. They noted that Caroline maybe could have made the same point about her own sexuality in different ways.
I am so curious to hear some takes from queer women on this!
Could she have honestly described her journey to understanding her own sexuality without this scene? Is she being purely revengeful in including this scene? Is there a bigger discourse here that something truly fucked up can be a genuine part of someone's journey and that's valid and they have a right to discuss it via art?
