Am I reading self help books the right way?
Post Body

Hi, I've been facing this challenge of not seeing the results of reading books like think and grow rich, the obstacle is the way,and by results I mean better life financially, socially, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. I just read them, get excited for a few hours and might not follow through with the lessons in the book. Secondly my mind gets carried away too much with calls from friends,YouTube videos on self help and tutorials.still no improvement

people call this , mental masturbation.

You fantsize about doing the task, get the dopamine hit as if you did it, then feel no desire to actually do it because youve already pleasured yourself. it no longer feels worth doing.

not that i know of. It requires a fundamental change in thinking. like regular masturbation, it requires you to stop, or at least reducing when you do it. you can try to meditate but what you must do in order to actually complete it is break your goals down.

dont read whole books, dont try other videos until youve taken your first step in the task.lets say, for example, you were reading dale carnegies how to win friends and influence people; a self improvement book that breaks down some things you can do.

You have to stay away from any more info until youve actively applied the first one.

we're taught the right way to learn in school but because school isnt a choice, most dont pay attention to the process. You are taught a small bit of information, some examples using it, then applying the knowledge yourself. if schools just had kids read the whole book then never go over it, theyd learn nothing. That fundamental pattern includes any learned skill, from math to basketball, to speech prep, to driving etc.

reading beats video in that its divided into chapters, making it easier to divide and bite into.

no matter what, its important to know, it took years- decades to become who you are. it will take time to become who you desire to be.
