So this is actually just an excerpt from a larger work (my WIP novel) but this is a stand-alone scene in the form of a flashback I simply want a sensitivity read done on. You don’t need to read the actual book to understand what’s going on.
This scene follows a closeted trans man in the 1950s, Jason, who is being raised in a traditional family to one day be nothing more than a trophy wife. It details his last day alive at prom, where he is crowned prom queen but his real identity is revealed later. It is not a happy story, but I hope his experience comes off genuine, and thus I am searching for a beta reader who is trans themselves.
(If interested in how this fits into the novel, TTIS is told from the perspective of a house haunted by several queer ghosts who lived tragic lives and now wreak their anger on people who move in present-day. Jason is one of these souls.)
