Help for my student
One of my students, who is adopted, is turning 18 in January. His adopted mother has already told him she is kicking him out when he turns 18 next month (there are lots of past issues).
She does not allow him to have any electronics (cell phone, laptop, etc). She also has never allowed him to get a license. The kid has no form of ID, no place to go, and no chance in the world. He has a guardian ad litem (since he was adopted and has had issues in court), but I’m not sure what this person can do for him.
How can I help him? Please, someone tell me something I can do for this student of mine. I’m so worried about what will happen to him in the next 40-something days. Is there any kid of governmental support for kids like this in Virginia?
*I should mention he is in 11th grade this year.

Update on “Help for my Student” Post
71 days ago I posted in this group asking for help for one of my students. He was a month away from being kicked out of his home by his adoptive parents. I was asking for help, for resources, and ideas. His 18th birthday came in January, and he was out of his home.
Fast forward to today, February 19. He has been living with my parents (my mother is also a teacher and has known him for 9 years) for nearly a month. He was only supposed to stay for a weekend, but there was no help for him in our area, and Mom wasn’t ever going to turn him away. He now has a state ID, a job, his birth certificate and social security card, he’s been moved to 12th grade to graduate early, he’s working on getting a driver’s license, he is speaking to a recruiter in hopes to join the army, and is doing so well overall.
I just wanted to update and thank all of those who commented with ideas and offers to help. Everything is okay.

An update on the comments on the original post. OP commented on January 2022 (about 6 months later) when someone asked how he’s doing now:
“My family took him in. Because of his IEP and age he was able to graduate high school a year early. He graduated basic training for the army last month. He was home with us for Christmas and left yesterday to go back and start some additional training.”
