This is happening right now, and it's one of those historical moments where you'll think about what you did - or didn't do - in the years to come.
Our representative in Congress, seems to think it's ok for the president to use his political power to pressure other countries into investigating his political rivals: https://twitter.com/repgregwalden/status/1176961015130537984
It's not ok. It's illegal as can be. Foreign countries should not be involved in US elections. If there are to be investigations into US persons, they should go through the proper channels in our own country. And foreign countries should certainly not be pressured into inventing wild claims in order to get aid they were promised.
If they let him get away with this... it's open season. He can do whatever the hell he wants and *no one* will stop him.
That's not a democracy any more.
I want my kids to grow up in a place where their vote counts.
This isn't some issue like taxes or guns or how much regulation the timber industry needs where we can get excited about it, but ultimately agree to disagree.
This is fundamental.
What can you do?
- Call Walden's office: (541) 389-4408
- Call local Republican representatives:
- Cheri Helt https://www.oregonlegislature.gov/helt
- Tim Knopp https://www.oregonlegislature.gov/knopp
No, Cheri and Tim can't vote for impeachment, but they have some influence with the local Republican party. They need to condemn this attack on our democracy; their leadership and courage is critical in a time like this.
As always: be polite with them.
