I'm a visitor, joined an ATM tour this weekend, and had a great time. But I always try to be a conscious visitor, thinking about the implications of the activities I do. My guide reminded us again and again how sacred and important the location and the artifacts found here are. It just got me wondering if the indigenous people who still live Belize find this disrespectful? Does the Belizean government do anything to pay respects to indigenous people? Do the tour operators give a cut of the profits to these communities?
