Lack of cultural diversity in ABA?
Post Body
Howdy!
I'm currently working on my capstone in my grad program and I would love to hear insights from everyone about the lack of cultural diversity in ABA in terms of BCBAs and also the lack of diversity with clients in our field as well.
Feel free to answer any of the questions below! I'd love to hear about everyone's experience.
- Is there a lack of diversity in ABA especially amongst BCBAs?
- Do you believe that therapists lack cultural competency? And if so, would implementing a cultural sensitivity training?
- Would you agree that most BAs view treatments as a 'one race fits all' situation?
- Do you believe there are racial disparities for children with autism? (i.e., Mandell et al. (1997) found that black children who were first diagnosed were often diagnosed with ADHD, misconduct, or an adjustment disorder before receiving a diagnosis of autism).
- Would ABA benefit from implementing a racial/culture match between therapist and client? What about a racial/culture match between therapist and caregivers?
- Do you have any personal experiences in regards to cultural diversity within the field?
