Hi, all. I’d really appreciate some advice. I’ve been interested in photography for a long time, but haven’t really invested into learning how to actually use a camera and take quality photos. I currently have a Canon Rebel T3 that I bought about 6 years ago. I have the kit 18-45mm lens and a 75-300mm telephoto lens.
With quarantine and social distancing I’d like to start learning how to use my camera and how to properly take photos. For the most part, I’ve been using my DSLR on full automatic mode as a point and shoot.
Mainly I’d be shooting landscapes, architecture, and monuments. I live in DC so lots of options. I’d also like to get into some portraiture and sunsets/sunrises.
My initial thought was to sell the T3 and upgrade to a mirrorless, was looking at the Canon M50 or the Sony 6100. Now I’m thinking it may be better to keep what I have and use that to learn on and then upgrade later. If I keep the T3, I’d look into getting a better lens. I’ve heard good things about the “nifty-fifty” and that it’s pretty much a staple.
If you were in a similar position, what would you do? Thank you!
