So just to start this off, I’m a big dude. Like 300 lbs big. I started skating as a way to lose weight and have fun. I’ve been skating for about a month, but I do work a full time job, so I skated maybe 2-3 times a week, at around 3-6 hours per session. I love cruising and just racing my brother, who’s been skating for 7 years. It was fun and safe, however, I don’t have the best balance and unfortunately, I got too confident. I was trying to get the hang of tick tacking to turn. Simple right? Well, all was well until the board slipped out from under me, my foot turned in and all my weight went on my ankle. I hit the ground and knew immediately that I’d fucked up. My brother told me to just chill and let the pain ease off, thinking it was a bad sprain. I rolled over on my back, lifting my leg up, and my foot dangled at the bend of my ankle. After a short trip via ambulance and a long night in the ER, I have found out that my fibula has a complete break at the bottom and my tibia has a spiral shaped break or fracture. It doesn’t really hurt, but that could be the norcos talking. Later today, when I wake up, I have to set up an appointment to see a orthopedic specialist. Lucky me, right? Whether it comes down to surgery or a brace/boot, once this bitch heals, I’m hoping back on.
