First some background: I've been reading up a bit on beekeeping a bit for around a year or so, but never started with it for various reasons. However, around two weeks ago, I found some bees swarming outside of my apartment so I decided this was a perfect opportunity, and I should finally go for it.
I didn't have any proper equipment yet, but I manged to spray them down with sugar water and brush them into a makeshift box. After a couple of attempts, they eventually decided to stay there. That's where they've been for almost two weeks.
I got a proper nuc box with frames/foundation within the first few days, but from what I'd read, I decided to hold off on moving them. They seemed to like the box well enough, and it was dry/elevated/protected, so I thought it might be better to wait until they had some comb built, and hopefully some brood, so that they would't leave when I moved them.
However, it's been almost two weeks, and they seem to be just hanging out in the box without any visible comb. From what I've read, they should have started pretty quickly. (Also, in one of those pictures it looks like their wax glands are producing?) It is entirely possible that there is some small amount of comb that they are simply standing on top of; I haven't tried to brush them off to examine it further, since I didn't want to disturb them more than necessary.
Should I just keep waiting on them? Is there something I should be doing differently? Is something going wrong here? I'm starting to get worried.
EDIT: I examined some of those white flakes on the floor of the box. I had assumed they were crystallized sugar, excess from the feeder, however most (all?) of them are wax flakes! What is going on here?
