Post Body
Hey there! I'm living in an apartment in NYC that had a "resolved" bed bug infestation ~1.5 years ago. Concerned it has been re-infested (not necessarily from the original/resolved infestation). Notes:
- getting a handful of very itchy bites each night, for the past few nights (less than a week)
- found a very bed-bug-looking thing on an old mattress (pictures below)
- looked closer, found 2 more (both smaller than the one pictured)
Things I have already done:
- notified building super
- notified property management co.
- washed (nearly) everything I own in hot water, tumble dried high heat, bagged in a separate room
- discarded of the old/spare/unwanted mattress, taking care to permanently render it unusable first (T&N with a very open cell/bottom, as you can see in the first pic - a Bed bug's ideal environment)
- inspected the existing/new/wanted mattress very thoroughly, using a high-powered flashlight
- inspected top/bottom/all sides, paid close attention to stitching/any little pockets bed bugs could find
- did not find anything; no: bed bugs, shedded skins, smears/stains (mattress looks new)
- ordered: mattress encasement, bed bug interceptors for the mattress, Diatomaceous Earth for perimeters/area around mattress, "Harris 5 Minute Bed Bug Killer"
I know it's unlikely that there's just a small number of bed bugs, which is why I've immediately gone into crisis mode. I do not want this to get any worse.
Thank you for any thoughts/input, it is all appreciated :)
