Is Hypothermia Stage 1 (Vigorour Shivering, Alert) Damaging?
Post Body

Does anyone get in the cold water long enough that you have a come down with vigorous shivering for awhile? My personality is a little addictive - I will dive in four paws, so to speak. I’m about ten weeks into doing one of the courses, and I’ve started getting in a local river that’s about 38 to 39 degrees F, with a several mph current, for from 5 to 7 minutes. Do the breathing while I’m in, I come out when the cold gets intense. I do some more breathing, but about five to ten minutes after I get out, big shivering, which looks like Hypothermia Stage 1 (alert, vigorous shivering). I’m pretty miserable until I get in the hot shower for twenty minutes. Is that damaging? Excessive? Do I need to get out sooner (it feels so good in the water), or is it no big deal as long as I don’t mind the discomfort?
