Seem to get sick after cold water exposure.

I have attempted to have a hot then cold shower multiple times but after a few days of doing it, I always seem to get unwell by feeling fatigued, congested, etc. I reduced the time in it to gradually build up, but it seems to still happen.
I then tried Dr Susanna Soberg's hot-cold-hot-cold approach and the same thing happened three days in.
Is this just a part of the cold water exposure process or am I doing something wrong?
