I’m sure yall probably get this question a lot, but…I want to be a DJ. Can you help me?
Post Body

Ok. So here are the deets. I’m a 41 year old late bloomer. I have wanted to DJ since I was about 14. Here is my experience…

Bought Technics 1200s one time in like 2008 and lost them when I got robbed less than a year later. Never even had a chance to set them up. I also went to a DJ school in like 2014 which I learned absolutely nothing at. It was a total rip off. I only went like 3 times and quit going cuz it was a total scam.

Ok so now the important stuff….

I’m not rich. But I believe in spending money for the right quality when it comes to buying something like this. I would rather wait an extra year to get a specific model or brand of equipment if it’s what best suits my needs and is top quality for what I’m looking for. So with that said, let’s say money is not an issue. So what I’m looking to spend does not matter.

What type of music do I want to spin? Well…everything. However, I mainly want to be able to spin classic progressive house music from the late 90s to mid 2000s for myself/pleasure/hobby and I want to spin modern current electronic music - specifically drum n bass and house - on a local pro level. I’m a bit tied in deep in my cities local DJ electronic/rave scene so it won’t be an issue for me to get a spot at a party or club here once I get my craft on point. I Also want to spin some industrial and Trance. So basically, music from the 80s to today. Stuff that is possibly still only in vinyl. As well as digital. I am not a vinyl nazi though. So I don’t care about the grit or fuzz on vinyl. It’s not necessary for me. I don’t mind it. But I can do without it. So long as I can play the music that is on vinyl, I don’t care if it’s by converting my vinyl to mp3 or having vinyl turntables as part of my set up. I’m open to whatever. I just want a full range of options and possibilities. I don’t want to be limited. I want to be able to do whatever i decide to do .

I am completely ignorant to everything about DJing. I know nothing. So I guess I’d need something for a beginer? But at the same time, I’d still rather learn on what I’m going to have for the long haul. I don’t have money to buy beginners stuff and then back door it with pro stuff. I need something more in the middle. Something that I can learn on but be content with for as far as I go into this as a hobby or for work.

I dont know what the difference is between cdjs, dj controllers and all in one dj set ups.

I do have a laptop and im sure im gonna wanna fuck with record box and serato. Which o don’t even know what they are exactly. lol

So let’s see what all yall can come up with. Please give me a list of your recommendations for a complete DJ equipment set up for my needs including, but not limited to, vinyl turntables, DJ controller, CDJs, an all in one controller, mixers and software, etc.
