hi :) i (f19) am very new to djing, and currently quite undecided over buying decks, as i am unsure if djing is really for me - i was wondering if anyone else here has been in my position and has any tips?
the person who introduced djing to me, i am no longer affiliated with (past mentor, very long story and sad situation lmao). it has been almost 7 months and i am now head of djing at my uni radio station - however i don't trust that i am not still doing it with him in mind, and "not actually" enjoying it, and this is the top reason for my doubts haha
one thing that is true is that i have always, always loved music. music has always been a big part of my life, although there are no musicians in my family and idk if i could ever be a musician myself. djing was never something i thought about at all until i got introduced to it by past mentor (normal?), so for me, it is very new and a bit out of my comfort zone, which may be where some of the doubt comes from. i definitely have a passion for music in some form.
i do know that i will feel sad if it turns out that djing isn't for me. i love music and djing has sort of become everything on my mind, and a couple months ago i saw my favourite dj (pete tong <3) live, which was a core memory.
i have serato lite on my laptop (no decks) so i have had some basic practice at least. it's not like i have never used decks - i have practiced on them and i did a 25-minute set at a party back in january which was fun and i felt so proud (however it did involve said past mentor lmao)
i have also been offered a "gig" which is in a couple months, doing a little set at a small campervan meeting/show (my dad works for the company that runs it and another one of the guys is a dj) - i have enjoyed thinking about what i would play. however my indecisiveness over a) deciding if djing is really for me and b) buying decks is wrecking it a bit. sorry if it's a bit of a silly post and i know this is something that is up to me to decide, but just curious if anyone here has also been in this position? thank you :))
tl;dr: relatively new to djing, unsure if i genuinely enjoy it or only do because of others
