Iām mixing house music. And at some points I find myself trying to transition to the next song (in the circle of 5ths) and there are parts where the vocals just arenāt mixing well. Not necessarily clashing but itās too much for my personal taste . Iām still a beginner and would appreciate some helpful tips. Iām on a DDJ-FLX6 (itās okay Iām not a cheaterš)
Right, so thatās why you want to almost never overlap vocals is for that very reason. On rare occasion the timing works out just right to where they perfectly line up to where you can have them overlap without clashing, but thatās a matter of happy accidents combined with split-second timing.
Why make it hard on yourself? Just donāt do it. Make it easy, especially in the beginning. For instance, have a looped acapella going on track A, and then transition into the break of track B 8-16 bars before the drop. If you fade or effect out of the loop A while the B track starts itās buildup then it creates a lot of tension in prep for that release, makes the drop āfeelā like it hits harder emotionally, and keeps the energy level going.
