How can I grow a beard?

Hey guys! I'm 19 and ever since I was a teen I've wanted to grow a beard. Sadly, it doesn't properly grow. I've recently shaved so I can't show you how it grows yet, I will make a post later about it. If you'd like a description, I basically grow a mustache, something that resembles a soul patch and sideburns that reach the cheek. However, none of them touch, which makes it look awful.

I wanted to know if there are some tips I can use to grow a beard or to fill the spots that are missing. I'm not asking for a miracle product or anything, just any tips you follow that could be helpful.
