Alrighty, I've been having some issues with VR, it starts every time, it's even stable, but my frames are horrendous. I'm averaging 20-90fps on "Lowest" graphics preset on two different PC's, I'm trying to work out where the problem lies. To start, specs.
PC 1:
i7-6700K
32GB DDR4 RAM
GTX1070OC
Game installed to M.2SSD.
PC 2:
i7-3930K
32GB DDR3 RAM
GTX1070OC
Game installed to HDD
Running on either computer nets the same result, the game will only run well on lowest in VR, in non-VR I'm getting 120FPS on High to Ultra at 1080p on PC1, and about the same on PC2.
Performance Metrics in Beam reports that under VR the CPU and the Game engine as potential bottlenecks.
Task Manager is telling me on both PC's that CPU utilisation is 20% across all 4 cores 8 threads on PC 1 and about the same on PC 2's 6 cores 12 threads.
GPU usage on both is below 6%.
Something I noticed on PC 1, lowering the render resolution to 1080 high ( about 40% if I remember correctly) brought the GPU usage up to 80% and FPS up to 90ish, still on lowest, any higher graphics settings and the GPU usage drops again and so does the frame rate. When compared to lowest, low gets about 45fps.
The question here is, what the hell is happening? Why does lowering the resolution of the headset make the game run perfectly?
To throw a further spanner in the thought process, my mates computer running the same GPU, less ram and a i7-8700K runs 90ish fps on high settings. So I'm doubly confused as to what the heck is happening here.
Hoping some people can shed some light on what I might need to do, if there's anything I can do, or if my only option is to play the game looking like an N64 titles to get good frames.
Cheers.
