connecting an 3.3v Arduino pro mini through the serial port
Post Body

as the title states i want to connect a arduino mini to a beagle bone black though one of the UARTs. I plan to power it through the 5v pin on the beagle bone. It seems straight forward but I was looking through the BBB manual and found this:

NOTE: DO NOT APPLY VOLTAGE TO ANY I/O PIN WHEN POWER IS NOT SUPPLIED TO THE BOARD.
IT WILL DAMAGE THE PROCESSOR AND VOID THE WARRANTY.
NO PINS ARE TO BE DRIVEN UNTIL AFTER THE SYS_RESET LINE GOES HIGH.

Whats the best way around this? I don't want the arduino to send a serial command to the BBB before its ready. Is a long delay, say 10 seconds at the start of the arduino sketch good enough or should i tie the arduino reset to the SYS_RESET line?
