Post Body

I made a post about a month ago expressing how Depression Cherry finally clicked with me and I was saying how (as a new listener to beach house who started with Bloom and Once Twice Melody) that my goal was to listen to each album in their own entirety for their own time to really let it sit with me and the music, and it’s been great.

beach house by beach house is a great album. i was expecting a lot more.. harsher tones seeing that it dates nearly 16 years ago and was expecting dated music but,

nah

this shit is HEATERS. sounds like Bloom and Depression Cherry had a baby

(Only albums I’ve listened to so far has been OTM, Bloom and DC, this is the 4th album. think i’ll do Devotion or 7 next, i really want to jump around cause i feel like its a more drastic/notable difference than chronological)

anyways;

this album is great, was expecting some rawness to it being the debut and for a debut its amazing. i think it’s more of a compilation of songs rather than a fleshed out album imo. the songs sound great, production is similar in a lot of aspects but as a continuous flow of tracks on a record it doesn’t feel like that to me.

a lot of the songs feel like they come to an abrupt stop, Salterwater specifically, and a lot of songs dont feel as drawn out as i’ve experienced with the other albums, songs like Master of None (great song, top 2 off the record) it’s drawn out for maybe a few paces longer then kinda stops.

also vocals can be really rough on this record i know that’s their style and thats why i love them cause it just sounds like audial depression, just straight up end-credit scene music and i love that.

this album has some flaws but thats fine its a debut album and i dont consider this a concept album more so just a playlist of a reallly good demo. songs are awesome and i love it cause it sounds so much like DC and some Bloom. and those are my two favorites of theirs so far.

Tokyo Witch sounds like some gameboy advance music and i feel 8-bit. its awesome

overall as a debut this is amazing a solid 8.5/10 for me. i think with more time it’ll grows as a favorite of mine cause these songs are so damn good.

Album Rankings So Dar:

  1. Bloom
  2. Depression Cherry

  3. Beach House

  4. Once Twice Melody

Unlistened to albums

7, Teen Dreams, Thank Your Lucky Stars, Devotion, iTunes Seasions, B-sides and Rarities. Think i’ll finish with Teen Dream tbh. see a lot of people on here love that album so i want to finish on a good final album note.

Some of my favorites off this tape: SaltWater, Master of None, House on the Hill, Apple Orchard really all of them. only one i dont like, is because of the long period silence in the middle of it is Heart and Lungs First half is great though.

Anyways; what do you think of this record? one of your favorites? where does it rank for you? some of your favorite’s off the tape?
