Leto mouthlock variant with torsion springs replacing the expanding screws normally used in these designs.

Post Body

I am working on a new version of the Leto style mouth lock. I wanted to post a rough model and see if anyone had any initial feedback.

My change is to replace the expanding screws with a torsion spring by winding part of the initial wire. The expansion of this spring should keep the wire in contact with the top and bottom of the mouth. This will allow some movement of the jaw. Its placement between the teeth will prevent the mouth from closing all of the way.

This is just an initial model with thinner wire. I was planning to use thicker spring steel/music wire in the final product. Along with some type of coating to protect the teeth, or the inclusion of mouthguards.

ps. Is there some trick to uploading pictures directly here?

EDIT: To clarify, in this design the springs service 2 purposes.

1) They replace the bite blocks in similar designs. Not through being a spring, but being a physical object stopping the teeth from closing. This places a limit on how closed the mouth can become.

2) The expansion force is minor and serves only to keep the wire in contact with the top and bottom teeth as the mouth opens wider.
