Scaling Question

I am really shit at the game but I have watched alot of videos and I usually die around trying to get to midgame. Got to the sage of fighting Orcs once but didnt last long. My main question is how am i suppose to get good equipment fast like I see many people having at like day 40 when they outfit their whole company even their reserves in Raider Gear. Just want to know if their is something I'm missing when trying to find humanoid enemies to kill for loot or is there something else to scale well.
