Okay, so here it is. In my personal, subjective opinion, Arkham Knight is actually my favourite of the series, followed by City, Asylum, then Origins, the last of which I have only played about an hour of because to me, it did not feel like it belonged in the Arkham collection of games for several reasons. The fact that it was made by a different studio, that being WB Montreal because Rocksteady wanted more than 2 years for their swansong game Arkham Knight, so Warner Bros gave them 4 years, but they still wanted another game in the meantime (which you can easily tell and I think it was a mistake) and that none of the characters are voiced by their normal voice actors eg. Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill etc which really threw me off. I also think that the graphics of the game look pretty bad to be completely honest, but that's not the point of this post.
Even though Arkham Knight is my personal favourite, I fully acknowledge that City is generally considered by most fans of the series to be the best of the series. I also love and adore City as well, but for me, having the Batmobile playable and all of Gotham as an open world to explore as your playground in Arkham Knight was the whipped cream and shaved chocolate on top of the milkshake for me that made it the Batman game of my dreams, even though again, I fully recognize that the Batmobile was very controversial, but I personally loved every second of it.
But, and this is the whole point of this post, I personally feel that Arkham Knight would be alot more warmly recieved by critics and fans at the time of it's release if it wasn't for one major element... the PC port. Now I didn't play Arkham Knight when it first came out. I played it roughly a year or so later and I also played it for the first time on PC and by then, the PC port had been completely fixed, so my first experience playing it was not ruined by how bad the PC port initially was. It was essentially as if I were playing it either on a PS4 or an Xbox One.
I genuinely believe that if the PC port had been as stable as the console ports (how like every other game in the series launched multiplatform), that Arkham Knight would have gotten much better reviews from all the major outlets and people would have been more forgiving of certain elements of the game such as the Batmobile and the reveal of who the Arkham Knight actually was, which by the way, I had no idea who he was until they revealed him. I thought that when they showed that specific flashback/hallucination scene in the movie studios that they were ruling that specific person out as a suspect on who the Arkham Knight was, but I guess I was wrong.
I am definitely looking forward to Rocksteady's next game, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League as I absolutely loved James Gunn's The Suicide Squad which released last year and Peacemaker is one of the best shows on TV right now. I am not as excited however for Gotham Knights as it is being developed by WB Montreal, the same team that make Arkham Origins, AND it has recieved several delays which is always a concern, but we shall see what unfolds.
