What is your favorite Semi-Hollowbody Bass Guitar and why?

I am trying to decide between buying a Gretsch Broadkaster (somehow), or a Jack Casady epiphone. There are a few others I have in mind in the 700-1500 price range. I'd like to buy cheap as possible, and I don't mind used. What do you think>
