OK, so I used to play bass until 5 years ago, that's when I stopped. I bought a new one 3 months ago, and have already gained my muscle memory, I can play some tunes, plenty of riffs, some scales and chords, but the thing is , when I try to create something new , I just block. My head is always full of ideas, but when I want to play them on bass, it's like I don't know how to. Most of time when I play with a drum loop or metronome I mostly just mess with scales and modify some riffs that I know. What I want to know is what should I focus on in order to become better at improvising.
