How to choose a bass guitar?
Post Body

So for context:

I started playing bass about 7 years ago and always treated it as nothing more than a hobby. That being said I’ve pretty much used the same gear since I started other than my amp which I had to replace at one point. My first bass was a fender squire p-bass which was given to me by my uncle. The 2nd one I got was an epiphone Les Paul bass which I bought at a pawn shop. I’ve only ever played these 2 because like I said I never really had a reason to buy another one, until recently.

A friend of mine asked me to play bass in a band that him and his friend started and they seem pretty serious about it, they already have a gig booked about 3 months out that’s gonna be at a local festival. I decided to take the opportunity out of shear “why not” energy. I’ve been practicing the songs and it’s going well but I feel I need to upgrade my gear a bit if I’m gonna be playing with a band.

I’m really just looking for recommendations as far as what bass would work best for me. As far as the ones I own, the fender I can say tends to stay in tune significantly better than the epiphone, however I like the sound of the epiphone a lot more. I’ve been looking at some ibanez basses and really like the look of them, but I don’t know much about their sound or quality.

For reference we play mostly old school rock and a little country, Tom petty, allman brothers, CCR, George strait, stuff like that.

Any recommendations or advice is greatly appreciated!!
