Finals MVP is just playoffs MVP

I just finished a season where my best player went down for 8 games with a herniated disc on the last game of the conference finals. I ended up winning the finals in 7 games, and the player who didn't play a single game in the finals still won Finals MVP, which feels a little silly to me. Has anyone else had this happen before?
