How do you feel about the BIEN and USBIG websites?

So I've been talking a bit with /u/widerquist about the websites.

http://www.usbig.net/index.php

My impression is that they are very unappealing and could use a major remake. There is however the problem of manpower (small web team that are already preoccupied), funding (BIEN only has 17k Euro) and ideas (this is where you come in) for what to do and how.

So, any ideas of how to improve things? Would you be willing to help the web team?
