Oakland to/from San Francisco, is Bart safe?

Is the information on muggings/attacks on Bart I can find exaggerated, specific to night time or a real problem?
Flying into Oakland I've already decided that I should Uber into San Francisco when arriving after dark.
But what about the middle of the weekday daylight hours for my return? Is the Coliseum area safe at ~11am?
What about inside San Francisco daylight hours? Is it safe then?
