Displaying Barbie dolls long-term

Does anyone got any advice for storing or displaying barbie dolls particularly the vintage ones? We’ve been displaying them in an enclosed cabinet for years and I’ve washed them last year because they did smell like plastic especially the vintage dolls. Then I started to wonder if it really is better for dolls not to be exposed to air or if they will age faster if they are exposed to it?
