Wondering how you guys who work by yourself manage lunch breaks. Right now I just take one whenever I get time. Sometimes it’s at 12 sometimes it’s not until 3. I usually eat in 10-15 min. Would rather have a consistent time but also don’t want to completely shut the shop down while I am on lunch. Also it’s a walk in shop. Would love to get some opinions!
Walk-in shop here. Usually take lunch around 12:30, so if I have people enough waiting to get me through til lunch - or close enough - I'll flip the sign and lock the door, throw up the "closed for lunch" sign. If it's slower, I'll just wait around until it's time. You're better setting a consistent time so people know -hey he's not here from around 12-1- vs -well sometimes he's closed 12-1 sometimes it's 3-4, idk which it is today so I'll just wait-.
Same basic process at closing time - once I have a line that'll push me to, or past, closing, the door gets locked - even if it's 2 hours before I "close" - if not you'll have days you're stuck 3 hours late because 4 guys walked in in the last half hour and you didn't tell any of them "sorry, I'm closing soon".
