Hey everyone, I'm from Western New York and while we have some beautiful land around here it really doesn't compare to Maine. I'm an outdoors guy and I love to experience the natural beauty of the world but I prefer to do it away from tourist traps. I have an opportunity to be going to your great state in the middle of August and I am looking for great destinations across Maine (in general) rather than specifically Bangor.
A couple of things to keep in mind:
I would love to go camping in places that are not on top of each other
I would like to go hiking and swimming in places that won't be crowded/busy
I would like to know some more "civilized" attractions as well as I'm bringing a girlfriend and I know she'll want to have days we spend in town somewhere.
Please remember that I'm not big on typical tourist traps. However, if it's worth it, it's worth it, I understand. I also understand that sharing some of this stuff might be something you like to keep special and I'll respect some place like that as well, please just send me a Private Message. I'm just looking for an unforgettable experience in your state and I figure who better to ask than the locals?
Thank you to anyone who takes the time to respond.
