(Sorry if this sounds whiny, I've never asked anyone before and figured this was the best way)
I've been living in Thailand for the last 17 years, and for 8 of them I have been a teacher. It's not that I haven't applied for other jobs, I absolutely have but my goodness....
I had one job contact me praising me and saying I was a perfect fit, until they realized I wasn't Thai...Suddenly they were sorry to inform me of some bad news.
Overall since I've been here, the only jobs I can get that aren't teaching jobs are jobs that I create myself. And besides going out on the streets and selling barbeque, I really don't know what to do anymore.
For example, I was doing computer repairs for a good 2 weeks before suddenly, I didn't have any more customers calling anymore.
It feels like if the job I'm applying for isn't a teaching job, then I'll never get it, no matter how qualified I am.
I've got a marketing degree, I've got a TESOL, experience in bookkeeping and computer repairs but it feels like the only thing that actually gets use is my TESOL.
I'm sorry if this all sounds whiny, but I guess that's why I'm here.... What can I do? Is teaching really all there is?
