Watching Episode 3: Carentan and two things about this episode that have plagued me for years:

1) what was the significance of the white horse? It seemed so out of place.

2) why did Nixon and Winters smirk after Major Strayer asked if it was safe to cross?

I ended up digging a little about my first question and found this: The White Horse scene

Can anybody add more context to this?
