Did Martin intentionally switch jackets with Guarnere?

Did Martin intentionally switch jackets with Guarnere (or possibly put the letter in Guarnere’s jacket) so he’d find out about his brother, without Martin having to tell him himself? Seems like too much of a coincidence for them to have mixed up their jackets at that exact moment in time. A bit of a shitty move on Martin’s part if so, it’d map to the occasional reputation he had as a goldbricker.
