Pit Nutter Logic in a Nutshell
Post Body

It amazes me how much special pleading and victim blamimg pit nutters and misguided animal advocates use in daily conversation about the breed. It's like their logic and reasoning regarding statistics and professional studies go out the window. For example:

Seatbelt Statistics - Accidents

"Of the 22,215 passenger vehicle occupants killed in 2019, 47% were not wearing seat belts.

Seat belts saved an estimated 14,955 lives and could have saved an additional 2,549 people if they had been wearing seat belts, in 2017 alone."

Source: https://www.nhtsa.gov/risky-driving/seat-belts

(Expected) General Consensus: "It's definitely a good idea to wear seatbelts. Car accidents can and still happen, but it's much better to wear one and decrease your chances of a fatality."

Shark Attacks:

According to the Florida Museum (who pulled their information from the National Safety Council based on the 2003 US population) there is a 1 in 3,748,067 chance of dying from a shark attack.

(Expected) General Consensus: "Even if the likelihood of encountering a shark and being killed by one are exponentially low, people shouldn't tempt nature by choosing to provoke a shark let alone continuing to swim when one has been spotted. It's the best course of action to evacuate from the ocean when you spot one."

Lightning:

From the same website/source, there is a 1 in 79,746 chance of dying from a lightning strike.

(Expected) General Consensus: "It's probably not the best idea to stay outside during a thunderstorm if at all avoidable. We should all avoid wearing or wielding metal objects, avoid places with higher elevations, don't swim, and don't lie flat on the ground."

Dog Fatalities:

"Pitbulls are responsible for the vast majority of fatalities associated with dogs.  From 2010 to June 2021, there were 430 fatal dog bites, with 185 of those coming from pit bulls, and another 41 that were pit bull mixes.

60% had pit bull in their bloodlines (either full-blooded or a mix)

7% had Rottweiler in their bloodline

4% had German shepherd in their bloodline

(later in the article)

Pitbulls are 2.5x more likely to bite in multiple anatomical locations than other breeds.

Pitbull attacks have higher morbidity rates, higher hospital charges, and a higher risk of death than attacks by other breeds.

Costs of Dog Bite Injuries & Insurance

In 2017, dog bites and dog-related injuries accounted for more than 33% of all paid homeowners liability claims. It totaled nearly $700 million.

(Expected) General Discourse:

"I don't think it's a good idea to own a creature that was bred for fighting/killing creatures for bloodsport."

"I don't think it's wise to choose a pitbull since statistical data combined with horrifying eye witness and victim testimony demonstrate how ferocious and ruthless they are when they attack."

"There should be bans on a breed that presents a clear demonstrable hazard to the livelihood of children, adults, senior citizens, and animal companions alike."

"I don't think everyone has the strength and resolve to handle such an aggressive, energetic, and unpredictable dog. I don't think it's safe for anyone under a certain height/weight or lacking in physical and emotional strength to even consider owning that breed."

"Most pet owners are loving and responsible. Even if there is a pitbull that has been showered with affection and is kind, goofy, and compassionate there is always the risk of that animal's instincts kicking in without warning and they could always maim/attack even their owner unprovoked."

Pit Nutters: "It'S tHe OwNer NoT the BREED!"

"YOU'RE ALL DOG RACISTS! I BET YOU HATE BLACK PEOPLE, TOO?!"

"Not my sweet snookems velvet hippo! They are laying next to my newborn infant so protectively with their flower crown! My dog is a total nanny dog!"

"But what about chihuahuas and other dogs?! They can bite too!"

"But that kid or elderly person triggered the dog simply by breathing!"
